Quotes from the book: gossip and the gospel
“Avoid, like the plague, anyone with an ax to grind, who hides in the darkness and overflows with bitterness.”
––Page 87
“We must make certain before we speak that we declare the truth by the authority and power of the Holy Spirit. We must never judge, for only a fool delights in airing his own
opinion.”
––Page 40
“Few indeed have enough spiritual in- sight to call attention to people who gossip without being taken in by their words.”
––Page 135
“We need to be honest with ourselves; if our religion is worthless because of our tongue then now is the time to joyfully repent.”
––Page 112
“The church resembles a family; very personal and intimate in their understanding of one another. When a relationship is broken it’s tempting to use this
closeness against those we once loved.”
––Page 33
“Gossip is still sin even if something is proven factual or true because the gossiper’s heart promotes evil rather than love.”
––Page 21
“Betrayers slander because if the righteous are justified by God, then the gossipers are dead wrong. They must slander in order to justify themselves to their families and other men.”
––Page 100
Gossip and the Gospel does not deal with worldly or secular gossip. Instead, it confronts something much more serious––gossip in the church, among those who claim the name of Christ. It gives Biblical teaching on the evil that can be done by the tongue and encourages us to always speak the truth by the power of the Holy Spirit in love.
